Our Collaborators

The Amish community in Northeastern Indiana initially decided to embark on forming the Community Health Clinic several years ago after learning more about the two visionary organizations – the Clinic for Special Children (CSC) and Das Deutsch Center (DDC) Clinic located in Strasburg, PA and Middlefield, OH, respectively. In 2008, the DDC Clinic and CSC staff warmly welcomed several CHC Board of Directors during site visits. Staff members from each organization spent precious time sharing information about their mission and vision, their operations, and the many lessons they’ve learned along the way. We hope you will take time to visit their websites and learn more about the important work they are doing.

The CHC would like to publicly thank both organizations for their guidance, support, and encouragement as we worked to establish the kind of high quality, specialized care for persons with rare disorders in Indiana/Michigan that they have been providing for years in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Clinic for Special Children (CSC)

“Special children are not just interesting medical problems, subjects of grants and research… They are children who need our help, and if we allow them to, they will teach us love. If we come to know these children as we should, they will make us better scientists, better physicians, and thoughtful people.” — Dr. Holmes Morton

Founded in 1990 by Dr. Holmes Morton in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, the CSC’s mission is to advance methods of newborn screening, to improve follow-up services, to develop better diagnostic methods, and to further clinical research in an ongoing effort to improve treatment and outcomes for children who suffer from rare inherited disorders.

Das Deutsch Center (DDC) Clinic

“We were conceived as a ‘gathering place;’ a place of love, compassion and caring where our children and families are respected; a place where people take the time to listen and share; a place of faith and hope.” — www.ddcclinic.org

Founded in 2002 and led by Dr. Heng Wang in Middlefield, Ohio, the DDC Clinic’s mission is to provide treatment, research, and educational services to Amish and non-Amish children and their families. Like the CHC, one of the DCC’s primary goals is the prevention of disease, not just the treatment of it.
