Pediatrician, clinical geneticist, & Medical Biochemical Geneticist

Dr. Kiri Sunde is a board-certified pediatrician, clinical geneticist, and medical biochemical geneticist dedicated to serving Amish, Mennonite, and other rural populations. Prior to her medical training, she was a Mary Ellen Avery Research Fellow at the Clinic for Special Children in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. She then completed her medical degree at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she also earned a master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Sciences.

Dr. Sunde completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Wisconsin and her medical genetics residency and medical biochemical genetics fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She joined the Community Health Clinic team full-time in Fall 2025. She sees patients in the Shipshewana clinic and is working to expand the clinic's services to the Amish communities in her home state of Michigan. In addition to working with Plain populations, Dr. Sunde’s professional interests include newborn screening, bioethics, and global health.

Outside of work, Dr. Sunde enjoys travelling, hiking, camping, reading, hammocking, horseback riding, and spending time with her adorable nephew, niece, and godson.
